The media spotlight has fallen away from Zimbabwe since the formation of the 'unity' government and with the cholera epidemic passing its peak. But this is not the time to look away.
For Zimbabweans this marks the beginning of a difficult journey towards free and fair elections in two year's time.
A window of opportunity
While instances of political intimidation do continue, there has been a reduction in recent months which has allowed Christian Aid’s partner organisations to work more freely.
It is a chance to ensure that the people of Zimbabwe can speak out in a strong and informed way to prevent another cycle of violence and intimidation from compromising the next round of elections.
Zimbabweans are already taking the opportunity to speak more freely, with Harare residents refusing to pay rates for services until they are delivered.
Strengthening voices
Christian Aid believes that this is a chance to encourage and support churches and organisations across Zimbabwe to speak out against injustice.
With essential services and infrastructure in tatters, the people of Zimbabwe need support to ensure the government puts in place policies that respond to their urgent needs.
Christian Aid’s partners will be working to ensure that the most vulnerable are given a voice in this process.
Please continue to support Christian Aid's work in the country as it stands in solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe and helps its partners to demand justice.
